Since the web server is on the Internet, and the i is reachable from the
web server, I do not see advantage in security.
There's a big difference between hitting an enterprise server directly on
the web, and hitting a front-end machine that communicates over a private
subnet to fetch data from the enterprise server in order to compose a
response. One simple example would be a DOS attack which could bring down
the web server without disturbing the peaceful dreams of the enterprise
server.
