There comes a point when if the configuration is simple enough (hscroot is
the only user, 1 or 2 servers, no customization done to the HMC) I just
take the easier road and just fresh.install the latest HMC code. (of
course, only when you don't need a specific step by step fw upgrade).

will tell you not to use the GUI. They will give you a link to doing HMC
