I'd bet the farm that if you type in
DSPPTF
you WILL get results.

Now if you want to try to figure out which ones were on install media and
which ones were shipped "after the fact" good luck with that.

Oh, and just to add confusion to the mix look up "respin" or "resave".

Thank you, it's very clear.
But in the case of "system" objects modified, is there a way to replace
them
by the original version? The machine has never been maintained, is there a
way no PTF are installed? I just ask, i will only be able to check in
place
this week end.
I have to test if at least i can save the system of try to buy a new tape
drive.

Ok, these are made up dates so only use them for examples.
Let's say V4R5 came out on Jan 1, 1994.
And you installed from that media.
Now let's say IBM came out with numerous PTFs and rolled out a new cume
for
V4R5 on the average of twice a year. Some of these PTF's are really
critical. Perhaps "system automatically powers off after Nov 1, 2005" or
some such thing. Now you clear off your system and lose all PTF's and
reinstall from original media. You now no longer have these fixes. And,
if
you follow the install instructions it will clearly state something to the
effect of put on the latest cume and IPL the system to let the INZSYS run.

However, if you rebuild from your saves you will have these PTF's.

I would also tend to use a GO SAVE, 21 and not any custom program you may
use to do saves. A lot of people still think they are working on an
AS/400 or some other predecessor to the current system and think they do
not
need to bother with stuff like IFS and whatnot.

I would also search hard for Recovery Guide for your particular release.
It will have step by step instructions for how to IPL from tape, clear
your
disks, etc. You can even follow those instructions up to the point of
stopping at restoring user data so that you can only restore stuff you
want
to keep and lose the clutter.

Hi Rob,
Sorry to respond to the wrong post.
Why is this risky to use the install media? It's ok for us because we have
nothing to save on this machine and also would like to erase the drives.
Here, i have a lot of things modified decades ago like the QSTRUPPGM and
too
many other things i can't list. If we restore a save, all this will be
restored too, no?
Best regards,
Felix

I would strongly recommend you go into DSPLICKEY and copy the ones off for
the current serial number and release. Keep in mind that some programs
may
be back level. For example, You may be at V4R5 but it still may be
running
some oddball thing from earlier.

Hi everyone,
We have two machines, old but but perfectly working : 9401-150 and
9402-400. We use it very often to when one of us has to test some COBOL
code without touching our production machine.
Because these two machines have been originally installed a lot of years
ago and now are full of various data, programs and configuration we would
like to remove.
In order to to that, we thought it would be better to perform a clean
install from CDs and clearing the disks to start over.
Because of our different moves these 15 or 20 last years, we are unable to
find the original CDs that were provided with.
IBM told me that the machine were not supported anymore so they are not
able to provide it. Our representative advised me to find CDs by myself
and
that i should ask here. I asked several resellers but they can't
understand
i need only the discs and not the licenses as our machines are already
licensed.
So if someone is able to retrieve old copies of the operating system
installation CDs, it would be very helpful for us. We need V4R5 and V4R4
(need to confirm exactly the installed versions).
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards
Felix
