Select. .. Intoleranz cannot be used in composition with dynamic SQL. You
either need a Cursor or values ... into.Birgitta

How can I retrieve the next sequence into an RPG variable?

Tried this but it's not right :-)

wSqlSelect = 'select next value for ' + USER +
'from SYSIBM.SYSDUMMY into :counter';
exec sql execute immediate :wSqlSelect;
