Our initial toe in the water at that DC was to just have our EMC DD2500
replicate to another EMC DD2500 at that site. That did a bunch of stuff,
like giving us offsite backup without Iron Mountain, etc. It also tested
the comm to that site.
The only problem we had with that was that the replication wasn't quite
tape-to-tape like our current VTL-to-VTL is. IDK if that was a limitation
to how the site hosting the DD2500 did business or what. I think I did do
a restore but it's been awhile. When I go to that DC I can still see the
other cage from the company hosting the DD2500.
You can either use their DD2500 and see if that works for you or use your
own. With your own you can definitely set up the tape to tape
relationship but you also have the cost of your own, maintenance, and cage
space, etc. We do our nightly saves there and can restore from that
nightly save onto a lpar here for testing and development, or DR.
This is a place you have to pass through four retinal scans to get to your
cage. And then there will be a lock on your cage.
We did have to have EMC come on site to do maintenance. They have access
after hours and all the clearance necessary.
And it's a short drive for Larry to get there. I suspect his hosting
service is located there.
