If folks are interested, I'll post the procedure on how to write CLP against the HMC in the Wiki.

IBM documents it really well and then you need to write the CL which is a CL 101 program.

As Jim said. No. You get a very courteous message thus:

"Virtual Partition Manager is not supported and this service function cannot be started. The system is in a state that does not allow this operating system to partition the server. Refer to the Virtual Partition Manager documentation for more information."

Hi,

I need to create a hosted partition on my Power7 server.
We have v7r3 and need a v7r1 partition that shares the tape library
and optical drive.
Thought I might use Virtual Partition Manager to do it but we use HMC
to manage our several servers.
Does having an HMC preclude being able to use the VPM?
I tried starting it through STRSST and got the following...

Logical Partitioning Environment Not Supported
System: S107603P
Virtual Partition Manager is not supported and this service function
cannot be started. The system is in a state that does not allow this
operating system to partition the server. Refer to the Virtual
Partition Manager documentation for more information.

If VPM is not an option, I'll have to look for that slideshow
presentation where someone gives a step by step on how to do it with
the HMC.
