Nothing stopping you from sndptford ptfid(number for cume, number for TR
group, number for hiper group, ...)
Well, if you're WAY behind there is link loader concern....
Which brings back to another question: Your respin/resave level...
Overview:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1022015
Critical!!! Bear with me!
IBM made a commitment that there would be no new TR's for 7.1 quite some
time ago. They kept that commitment. Normally they would create a
matching resave for each new TR. There are many reasons to do so. Chief
among them are these two:
- If you are starting from scratch on new hardware, and you want to use
IBM media, you sometimes can't even IPL unless you get new resaved media
so how in the heck can you fix it with a PTF?
- You are so stinking far behind on PTF's that any attempt to catch up
will fill your link loader and you will have to 'slip the lic' anyway. I
have a LinkedIn article on this.
In keeping with IBM's commitments to no new TR's for 7.1 they did sneak
around a corner and issue a new resave. A darn rare thing to have a
resave without a TR.
This resave is to support certain new P8 hardware (can you see why I think
it may be critical for you?).
Check out the link above.
Notice the "marker ptf"? That's your "lic level". You should be able to
find it with DSPPTF 5770999. If you have that marker PTF you should not
need this resave. And, if you put on all groups, including that hardware
group, you are probably good also.
To put on a resave is covered in all Knowledge Centers in the section
"Replacing Licensed Internal Code and IBM i of the same version and
release" such as
https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_71/rzahc/upgradesameversion.htm
You will often hear this referred to as "slipping the lic". lic =
Licensed Internal Code.
It is strongly recommended to put on the latest cume and groups after
doing this as this resave was at some point in time and it is NOT to be
construed as a brand new save done the day you ordered it complete with
all PTF's.
