If it's a recurring hiccup in the connection, you might want to
consider changing to FTP-based remote editing, just for reliability.
Jack is fond of jEdit for this purpose. I have also been able to use
Atom. Both of those are heavier-weight than Notepad++ and require
plugins for the (S)FTP part, but since the connection really only has
to be there at load time and at save time, I would think there's less
chance to lose your changes. (For that matter, maybe Notepad++ itself
has a plugin for this.)
