The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Well since he wants to call the program on another system, every method is roundabout in one way or another.
It's quite easy to call a remote command on a local or remote system directly via JT400 from a small Java program and wait until it finishes.
In this case I believe he wants to call and RPG program on another system and wait for completion before returning to the primary job stream.
You can also return the parameters and any CPF messages from the call as well.
I wouldn't really call this middleware because there's no app server or web service needed for this direct system to system interaction.
But I guess it depends on your definition of middleware.

Wouldn't Java and JT400 be a roundabout way of calling an IBM i program
from another? Wouldn't you be lengthening the call path significantly? What
value would the middleware bring to the table?

If you do any Java programming you can use the JT400 remote command call or program call to do the job.
