Quick input. HMC=0/1 means that the machine WAS connected to an HMC. You
will have to erase that configuration to be able to use it in single-lpar
mode. The machine might not even support IBM i, it's detailed inside the
ASMI in one of the tabs (IBM i capable and 5250 capable or something like
that).
I would take care removing cpu-cards without putting the fillers in.
Airflow on the newer machines is very tightly calculated and a missing card
or filler might cause overheating.
Best regards!

Hi Scott

are you setting the IPL Mode to Manual ("M") ?

I guess you are changing the settings via the front panel; try setting
the
mode to manual.

Does the system even check the CD drive while it is doing whatever it is
doing ?

Does the power light blink when the machine has finished powering up ?

You might be powering up the managed system and not the primary
(non-existent) LPAR.

If it is blinking try holding down the power button for a few seconds.

From memory there are some settings in ASMI regarding the primary LPAR -
is
it set to auto start ? I think you can power it up from there as well
but I
am really testing my memory .

Good luck.

Evan,

Yes, the IPL is set to M.

When I press the power button a bunch of SRC codes whiz by... (They are
detailed in the ASMI, I could list them later on if needed.) The lamps for
the DVD drive do light up as well as the ones on the disk backplane.

I believe the Power Status lamp does blink, but I recall it blinking in
Standby mode as well so I'll have to double check on that. The attention
light was lit on first power on, but I was able to turn that off in ASMI,
and it hasn't re-lit since. I know if you hold down the power button for 4
seconds it does a fast shutdown, but I don't think i've held the button for
only 2-3 seconds.

In the ASMI there is a setting about the default partition and it allows
setting AIX, Linux, or i5/OS as the partition, and I have set it to i5/OS.

Thanks for your input.
