If you keep within about 6 months of current PTFs and apply perm once a year
you will:

a) keep your system current with new enhancements
b) save quite a bit of space
c) make recoveries easier and faster (if you ever need one, then again test
at least once a year. Without a recovery test, you don't have backups, just
lots of magnetized tape!)
d) avoid IBM telling you on the current PMR: "call us again when you have
current PTFs on, then we will work the problem". They have a point.

We could go on but that would be too easy. I'm going to a customer today
to discuss getting the last 3 years of PTFs onto the V7R1 system (they are
not upgrading "just yet"). Looks like a LIC slip install and full weekend.

When you have too many temp applied PTFs and blow up the link loader on the
"B" side. :-)

When does one have to IPL from the A side, except to bypass a bad PTF
