... so called command line utilities (= small Java Apps) are as well runnable in a prestarted JVM. Open Source CommandGate (part of the appserver4RPG project) has this feature implemented. AppServer4RPG supports multiple JVM environments by multiple installs and classpath is handles automatically (just throw your jar files in the lib directory).

I am not trying to argue the point here, but this is not a case of "our
experiences apparently differ".

Your approach *will* start multiple JVMs which can be a
comparatively expensive approach but solves the issue of needing
different class paths for different functions.
Whether that expense is acceptable will vary depending on the circumstances
of each business.

I am not dismissing your approach, I am just pointing out the additional
overhead is not related to "my environmental", it's a specific side-effect
of your suggestion.
