Pete,
Depends on what kind of storage you are using. most storages WONT accept a
drive with incorrect VPD (just like IBM i), even if it's he same
ST3146855SS. What you need to verify is mostly the FC/Option (or in IBM i's
case the CCIN). If those match, it's OK.
Best way to be sure? use the same FRU.
Best Regards,
Roberto

Gonna have to get a couple of drives so here is one last question before I

Does the FRU on the drive have to match the replacement? The storage
module has 6, 146GB 3.5 inch 15K drives that have FRU 43W7526 and the
model is ST3146855SS. I don't think that the FRU is critical. I find a
lot of used ("pre-owned"!) 146GB 15K IBM SAS drives with different FRU's at
various prices. I am going to spend a few bucks to get them overnighted
(might as well buy two or three while I am at it) but I'd hate to get some
that won't work. So how important is the FRU's to match?

Don't feel so bad. There's a big difference between a MTU and a PTF cover
letter. I never take the time to read all PTF cover letters when I do
cume and groups.
