Agreed. LPR has the least bells-and-whistles. It's also exponentially less needy that than alternative protocols.

It has been my experience that LPD/LPR is the lowest level of support on IBM i. There are many features and functions that it does not support. It gives virtually no specific error details back to the system.
To answer your original question, Jim, changing the PRTERRMSG parameter to *INFO is definitely standard practice here.
