I think there is an LTO5 version of the internal drive as well.

The thing about the external drive is simple, it will attach to another
system simply by moving the cable. That's investment protection since the
sled is about the same price both ways. With the TS3100, now you have
(minimally without BRMS, with BRMS a fully automated tape library) a tape
auto loader that will move to about any system you want, POWER or intel.
