My dad was an accountant in California
working for a dairy/pharmaceutical company
(Mckesson later on). I'm now 70 and I can
fondly remember how that Monroe seemed
to be the center of his universe for many of
his weekends. I think those times taught me
a lot about dedication and sacrifice as he
surely did a lot of work on the weekends at
the dining room table. Thanks for the
memory!

Yes, I'm that old.
My dad came up through the equipment department of a huge highway
construction company. One of the things he did on the weekends was to use
his Monroe to determine the rental rates that the main office charged the
jobs for the various pieces of equipment needed to build roads and
bridges.

Paul,
My dad used to bring one of those home from his work
and sit for hours working on big tabular type sheets
and I can remember that thing running for several
seconds churning out his calculations. Made almost
a "cha chink" kind of noise at the end. That was in the
early 60's. Are you that old? :-)

It was the HP-35 when I was in college. The next-best thing to a
personal computer (which hadn't been invented yet).
The 'first' HP-RPN calculator, and all us engineering students were
green with envy over those who could afford one!
