There is a setting to auto-reconnect. I use to have desktop tech support staff who would turn that on for some users who were always calling the helpdesk complaining about why they had to logon every day to 5250 sessions when they didn’t have to logon to their PC everyday (yes, employees who left at the end of the day without logging off or turning off their computer because they said it took too long to logon every day).
