That's a great idea, provided your hardware and policies will support that.
Myself, I've used Linux at home since 2003. I have my personal laptop
with me, it's just not allowed on the company LAN.

Nah. Just grab a copy of virtualbox and load a Linux distro to play with
on your Windows desktop to get comfortable. I used Linux exclusively and
successfully as a customer for the last five years. Unfortunately the tools
I require now are very much geared to Windows.
