Yessir Wordstar and then Wordmaster. Wordmaster was in the small KB range, loaded instantly, and was very quick. Same command keys and that's what I love about Joe as I'm instantly productive in there. The keys make sense too Ctrl-K is the first for a block copy then Ctrl-B to mark the beginning (BlocK) and K for the end. See the logic? Then CTRL K and C to Copy and K and M to Move and K and D to Delete. Ctrl KS to save and KX to eXit. See now you are an expert!

Sure no syntax support but that's not what I need when editing a TCP config file or Hosts file etc. I need

Also unlike VI or VIM you don't need to use Insert for some inane reason to be able to edit and deleting a line and hitting delete works while VI and VIM require some escaped two finger shift something DD followed by an incantation. The delete key actually works and and insert is insert. Want a new line hit 'enter' Done. Oh and it shows the row number the cursor is on while editing the file so for scripts that say "Error thus and so at line 123" you can get there easy.

So you really must have liked WordStar then. All those cranky control key combinations.....

Then again VI and VIM both have that problem, don't they?

That's where I really like Orion because it gets past all of that falderal. I just wish more customers would let me leave it running.

Jack,

True enough! I've tried it and it works well.

Our customers usually insist on the source code staying on the system
we are working on, as opposed to us downloading it to our systems to
do the work (RDi is the exception to the rule there) so Orion is an
excellent way to do that, without having to endure EDTF.

Now that BASH is available and VI is on the system we use those occasionally
too if the web instance for Orion is problematic to the customer. I'm
hoping VIM is announced and supported by IBM soon, and yes we could
download it and get it running but it's not the same....
