+1

This is exactly the kind of thing where I want the message removed - the only thing that cares about it is the program - not any of us humans.

Now having a way to determine existence without using the messaging functionality would be cool - and we have it in the "access" API, especially now that we can use BYVAL in CL programs.

So I guess I agree with everyone who has responded in this thread!! In the words of the immortal Tevye - "You're right!"

Cheers

I remember watching some consultants spend 1-2 weeks looking for a "missing
object" (I think it was in JDE) because someone had gone through the job
log and discovered an "Object not found" message. They became obsessed with
finding that missing object and were convinced that it was causing some
problem they believed was happening in JDE.

There was a bit of embarassment when I showed someone on the team a CL
program that did a DLTOBJ and monitored for the not found message before
going ahead and creating it - and then pointed out it was a pretty norrmal
programming practise to ensure the program was running in a consistent
environment.
