Nathan,
Any time we do a major system change, (relocate, i5/OS upgrade, etc) we always do a dedicated full system backup. If something would go wrong in the process, you only have to do one restore, from your last full save.

Thank you everyone for your input. Based on the input I've gotten, it seems like I should probably just do what is normally done for the backup. Better to be safe than sorry. I appreciate the input!

As others have said: YMMV or "It Depends." Here's a warning though, by default SAVCHGOBJ does not save any object that is journaled. You may find this speeds the backup quite dramatically, or not, depending on if your database is journaled or not. *BUT* If it's journaled and you did not save those objects, then you BETTER have the journals and receivers!! Since you're new to IBM i, if you choose to do SAVCHGOBJ because you have determined it will back up significantly fewer objects then be certain to specify OBJJRN(*YES) when you run the command!

Hello Gurus of the List;
I am a zSeries guy that has recently acquired an iSeries box for which

need to do maintenance. I have a question about doing backups. Currently, our system backups take about 3 hours (and I believe is All libraries
other than system). We are planning to shut down this AS/400 and ship it
across the country for a data center relocation. Is there a way to do an incremental backup that would be quicker? We do a full backup nightly, at midnight and are shutting down at noon...so at most we will have 6 hours (QINTER doesn't come back up until 6 AM) of data, and it would be easier to take an incremental of just what changed if possible.
Thanks!
