Yes was talking about Active Directory and even IBM i OS usernames. Users want something personal to use to logon to a desktop or Client access but then also want to change it when circumstances change. I think we have about a 50 page document to follow when someone wants the username changed. We use to use job titles but then job titles would change but nothing else. Now username is a construct of first-middle-last name and a tie breaker and marriage/divorce changes last name and for us (college what has to allow students to use a chosen name) first name changes on a whim.

I think he's talking more like Windows permissions.

Don't many places log you on now by your email, and still let you reassign your email address, if need be?

I wish user account directors on computers would allow for this kind of
design. A username that is never seen and never used except to have access
rights assigned and instead the user would logon with an alias that is
tied to that username. If the alias needs to change (aka due to marriage
or divorce) it would bt no big deal.

The 666 is a good example. Considering that the honeymoon from my first
marriage was in room 1313 of the Sheraton in Ocho Rios Jamaica. I didn't
even think hotels had a 13th floor.
I can see that...

Instead of 'customer number' think 'telephone number'.
From the 'Believe it or Not' files comes this one: a new customer signs
on to a business, and is aghast to discover that the computer has
assigned them a customer number with 666 in it. Customer insisted on a
new assignment, and got it.
It seems to me that anything facing the customer is subject to change.
