Re: Soft coding SQL based on parameter file

It saddens me daily. People who write fixed format code on a NEW project. But... It's "modern" because they use callp to read/write IFS files or have an embedded sql or, best of all, use the EVAL opcode.

People who have never heard of RDi, don't subscribe to any trade newsletters, don't know why SEU lights when I tell them about %scanrpl() for a task.

Why learn more? RPG is dead. No, it's not - you are. You are stealing fom your employer by not keeping your craft current.

The list goes on and on.

I have to 100% agree. I write and try to teach data-centric programming techniques to long time AS/400/iSeries/IBM i veterans who cannot figure out how to use the IBM DB2 SQL Query Engine to it's fullest. The best I get is them trying to use SQL like RLA which will never work.

All new code developed should be in RPGLE Full Free form utilizing advanced embedded data-centric SQL statements which have been fully tuned using blocking or not blocking to process the data fastest. Based on all testing I've done using a mainly SQL solution, the results I have seen is that the SQE query engine is 500% to 10000% faster than the RLA logic it is duplicating.
