It will continue to run yes. But you would be better served by upgrading.

The new version is not _called_ Community Edition (but then neither was the original Zend Server on IBM i) but the effect is the same. Zero cost and free maintenance for 12 months. It will install in parallel with your existing version and you can therefore test it out before committing to the change. It is well worth the switch as the new version performs better and makes it much easier to install some packages.

We had been using the original Zend supplied Aura toolkit for calling programs etc. And had to switch over to using Alan Seiden's compatibility layer. That did cause some problems - mostly because the original toolkit did not enforce compliance with its own parameter definitions and we had apparently broken many rules by accident without realizing it. How much trouble you have will depend on how much custom code you use and (more importantly) when your code was written and how well it complied with the defined interfaces.

Jon,

We are on V7R1.
We're running Zend 2ZSVRPI *INSTALLED Zend Server for IBM i 5.6.0 ( PHP 5.3 ).
We are running the "community edition" , no license key required.
We have no support contract with Zend.

We will be upgrading our 8205 from V7R1 to V7R3.
Will Zend 2ZSVRPI *INSTALLED Zend Server for IBM i 5.6.0 ( PHP 5.3 ) run on V7R3?

From some other posts, I've read that installing a newer version of Zend will be a new install, named ZENDPHP7.
Is this new version of Zend a "community edition" ?
It can run simultaneously with the old version.

Paul

If you look for information on IBM i rather than iSeries you might do better <evil grin>

PHP is still fully supported, and still free along with the Zend Studio entitlement that has been in place since day 1.

I'm not sure if it still ships with the OS but you can get information and find the download links for the latest version of Zend Server here http://www.zend.com/en/solutions/modernize-ibm-i <http://www.zend.com/en/solutions/modernize-ibm-i><http://www.zend.com/en/solutions/modernize-ibm-i <http://www.zend.com/en/solutions/modernize-ibm-i>>

As an IBM i user you will get 30 days of full Zend Server Enterprise usage. At that time it will tell you to obtain a license key. If you choose Basic (which is a common choice) you get support for one year free of charge. After that you buy a support package f you feel you need it or just continue to use the product without support.

Im trying to find information on loading PHP onto our iseries (7.1). I see a lot of information for 5.4, but most links for these are dead. Is there still a "free" version of PHP for iseries version 7 and above?
