John, Scott Klement's JDBCR4 is free and works very well. I have used it at a previous employer and I am in the process of using it at my current employer. It allows you to do almost anything on the SQL Server database directly from RPG.

If you have any specific issues or questions there are many people on the RPG400 list to help. Including Scott himself.
