I do a BRMS system save also. However, I do
- quiesce applications
- endtcp
- endsbs
- STRCTLGBRM ...
to do the save.
And, yes, especially with the BRMS network option it does restart a tiny
subset of TCP to talk nicely to the other lpars to see if it can borrow
tapes and stuff if needed. They cannot initiate conversations to it. I
find this slightly disconcerting and asked IBM if they really need to do
this if I pinky swear that I have enough tapes but they won't budge.

IBM says this about failure to endtcp prior to endsbs:
<snip>
Possible problems by not following recommendation are listed below:
o LDAP not restarting properly or losing data due to the server not being
ended before subsystems.
o Netserver not restarting due to tasks not ending properly without an end
of the server prior to the ending of subsystems.
o Document New, Receiving CWBLM0017 RC2=28 Error When Trying to Start
PC5250 Session:
o Document New, Telnet Fails after System Save (GO SAVE 21): Database 'DCF
Technotes (IBM i)', View 'Products', Document 'Telnet Fails after System
Save (GO SAVE 21)'
o Document N1010546, Management Central Failing to Start and Receiving

"IBM i" endtcp prior to ENDSBS

One of the hits is that the 7.1 MTU has been enhanced to show that they do
the ENDTCP prior to the ENDSBS as part of the save now on GO SAVE 21.
