Yep that's what I'd do. All those upgrade steps will take forever. With just one system and few users on the HMC (You do have more than just hscroot correct? :-) ) it truly is easier just to scratch load it with 8.8.6.0

Spend a little time recording things like IP addresses, but that's most of what you need to get correct, right there.

Else I have to step upgrade from V7R7.2 to V7R7.7 to V7R7.9 to V8R8.2 to V8R8.4 which I know the power 8 will utilize. Final step would be to V8R8.6

If I can go direct to V8R8.4 which I have in a second data center and know the Power 8 is covered. I will first see what firmware I need to install to get the Power 7 supported.
