Is there some way for you to name the computers at work in a way that you could tell the session name is at work and if it’s a QPADEVxxxxxxx its at home

Forgive me if this is naive or unhelpful to your situation; but maybe it is easier to just have the user manually key or click in a work/home value?
I'd argue that if they are establishing a session once (or maybe up to 3 or
4 times) in a day, it's really not a productivity issue.

The term "yak shaving" comes to mind. Just my 2 cents!

Several release ago I might have done the same thing. I have actually
wrote a RTVIPADDR command just to retrieve the IP Address of the
currently running 5250 job.
But times have changed. The SQL services available on currently
supported releases of the OS really negate that kind of work.

However, if this person is doing stuff like VPNing into one PC and
using remote desktop on that PC to run their 5250 sessions then the
5250 session will have a local address (from the remote desktop) and
not the VPN address.

Again, I fail to understand why one would care if the person is using
VPN vs local unless the data is super high secure and must only be
accessed from a particular local workstation which has no remote
desktop or other such capabilities. This kind of data is often not
found outside the studios of "24".

Hello,

Here is how I would suggest you might do this. First, a few assumption:
- Your user are using PC5250 emulation
- When they are connected through VPN, they are using a different
range of IP address that is known to you

Here are the steps
- Using RTVJOBA, you can extract the name of the device used by your
user
- Then, in the device description, you can extract (probably with an
API) the IP address of that device
- You check that IP address to see if it is the address of a VPN
connection

That is how I would tackle this problem

I want to check if a user is working from home or is signed on from
one of the offices. We have several offices that are connected to the
IBM i with VPNs.

Is this possible? If yes, how could I do it?
