You're trying to argue with logic. As if people are going to change
because of what you are asking.
That is not going to happen. The way it is nowadays is that the industry
demands that the browsers stop allowing you to bypass and self signed
certificates, obsolete ciphers, etc. If you're are going to call it https
then it had better by golly be https and not jacked over http.

Just stop right there. Arguing the merits of this will get you no where.
It's just a fact. You simply have to decide
- Do I get current ciphers and certificates signed by a trusted authority?
- Or do I stop using https and use http instead?

If you have current PTF's for IBM Navigator for i they defaulted back to
no longer using https. You have to configure it again to use https.

FTPS is going the same route at some places. If you want to allow self
signed certificates and/or obsolete ciphers then you are encouraged to
just use ftp.

We put the hard halt on ftp being served to the outside and you must use
https or sftp.
