That's one way to look at it.

Here's the thing though, these flash drives are not intended for backup and recovery. IBM even says that.

So if you are saving a lot of stuff then you should consider RDX instead. Those will go to at least 1TB and are more reliable and thus valid for backup use.

I have used USB sticks dozens of times and they are fabulously handy but they are limited capacity on purpose.

Yes, we think a SAVLIB went over the 32GB limit and that is how the drive
got corrupted. It is no longer accessible.

One would think it would get to the limit and say something like "insert
vol 2" or something like that.

It is not reasonable to attempt to assess how much space a SAVLIB will
take or, in our case, multiple SAVLIBs.

It appears these flash drives are useless.

That is the limit. I think you have to unmount it. Try a WRKOPTVOL

Did you go over 32G? I believe that's the limit.

I have had a chance to fool around with flash drives on a relatively
new IBM I. I had never seen them before.

Looking them up at IBM the chilling text reads "not a reliable backup
media". Hmmmmm!

We tried copying a bunch of libraries onto one (RMS02) using SAVLIB
and we did one too many.

Now the drive is inaccessible.

Anyone else use these things?
