Establishing a connection to Host Servers on the same box without going through Java

At the end of my query this morning, I asked:

Any suggestions on an easy way to establish a test connection to the
Host Servers ports from ILE RPG or ILE C, without calling out to JAVA
to use JDBC?

Rephrasing the question, is there an easy native way to check response times (no need to do anything useful) of:

449 (as-svrmap)
8470 (as-central)
8471 (as-database)
8476 (as-signon)
