Aaron,

That is exactly what you've already started and it's a great thing. We are
developing some tooling off the base work that you have already done now.
We hope to have it production very soon.

I agree, for those that like it, they can keep it.

Let me expound on my idea a bit more. The "Dash for i"** would have a focus
on plugins so any vendor or single programmer or community group could add
their own utility. Plugins would be hosted on npmjs.com (as are all other
Node.js plugins) and if a plugin was for-fee then there could be a
registration process the vendor/consultant built into it.

**for lack of a better term.

A community project to build an alternative to Navigator would be a
nice thing, no doubt. That would allow some flexibility in
feature/function and maybe the ability to set up the menu to suit your
individual needs, system admin, development, user experience, ETC. I
can think of other aspects that would be nice too. Definitely a
worthwhile project.

But I have to point out that with the notable exception of the
dashboard (which in my mind should be removed from the system then
re-released when it
finally works) Navigator for i is an exceptional product. True there are
some fixes for it but it touches almost every aspect of the system and
does it well. I can give that URL to customers that have no real
command line knowledge and they are able to do almost anything they
need to without too much assistance. The user portions of the site
make getting after spool and other things quite easy. I guess I'm
suggesting that we don't toss out the baby with the bathwater.

My hope is we can eventually have a community project that replaces
IBM Navigator for i. I've never worked with an admin app that
requires so much attention (updates, fine tuning, trouble shooting, etc).

At this time there is no way to globally disable the dashboard from
loading on users screen. There are future plans to make this option
available. The only option you have at this time is to have each
user when they sign on to Navigator is to change the Dashboard to
"Manual"
instead of "Auto" This way the next time they log on it won't try
to load the dashboard with new data and should speed things up.
