One thing I *think* I did on this file was issue CHGPF to update it
after making a not-record-format-altering change to its DDS, instead
of recompiling. Ever since learning this "trick" on these lists, I've
been using it like it's going out of style. Got a PDM option for it
and everything. But now I'm wondering if maybe this is somehow related
to the MCH1210.

I just tried this again, and reproduced the behavior. In my case, the
file in question is a physical file with some key fields defined in
the DDS. I did DSPFD on it to make sure it worked normally, which it
did; then I changed one of the key fields in the DDS without touching
anything else; then did CHGPF instead of recompiling; and boom, the
file now exhibits this problem.

Cool, huh? :)
