Normally I would do the order by outside the UDTF indeed. But the UDTF
contains a large join with many tables which contain the sort fields, and
I don't want to return al those sort fields in the result set.

If you really want to add a variable order by you may use a case clause:

Return (Select ....
Order By Case When Par1 = 1 and Par2 = 'ASC' Then Col1 End,
Case When Par1 = 1 and Par2 = 'DESC' then Col1 End Desc,
Case When Par1 = 2 and Par2 = 'ASC' Then Col2 End,
Case When Par1 = 2 and Par2 = 'DESC' Then Col2 End Desc)
