I user data queues as an alternate to DLYJOB at times. When you use a
data queue, you can interrupt a wait by just posting an entry to the data
queue. So, if you have a long delay time, but you want to be able to shut
it down cleanly in the middle of a wait, using a data queue does the
trick.

You don't have to lose the audit trail, you can log anything you wan in both the sending and receiving applications. If you use service programs, you can wrap the put and get calls in a sub-procedure to do the logging for you, and call that from your programs.
