As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

I don't believe so, one of the reasons to move to the new client.
I can't find documentation to prove that so the "I think".

use STRSST (or any sniffer) and see passwords sent in the clear (and other
data).
Does the deprecated iAccess for Windows 5250 client support the newer SSL
cipher specifications?
