That was the exception and it has to do with Encryption. The console 
connection is no longer plain text and the old client could not handle 
the encrypted console. Clearly they were not going to enhance the old 
and already flagged 'stabilized' client when the new client was available.

Also consider that the Access Client Solutions (ACS) Client needs nearly 
zero install and for the console normally needs to be installed on only 
one PC.
