Good idea to move it, while it's open you can't allocate it for backup. You
don't say if you use BRMS or not so I will assume not. Depending on how you
have your save's running they may not be completing normally which would
make me nervous. A data area used in the way you're describing is not
critical from a save/restore perspective so you can recreate it as needed in
the event of a recovery. Just make a note in your recovery plans to deal
with it.

Subject: Dtaara Lock
Hopefully an easy Monday morning question:
We have data areas inside a library that is backed up using a SAVLIB
command. Just before the SAVLIB command runs one of the dtaaras in that
library is changed to indicate that backup is now running.
Other subsystem procedures check this dtaara to see if the backup is running
and loop wait until available.
Is the dtaara available for read only or does it get locked down while being
backed up?
I ask this because I have suggested that the data area be moved away from
that specific library to one that isn't being saved so that there is
absoluetly no contention.
