ACS doesn't have service packs. There are modification levels (M4, M5, M6,
...) and between new mod levels, updates as needed ( M4 Update 1, M4
Update 2, M5 Update 1). There are many ways to deploy ACS, including on a
network share for all your users to use.

Some subset of AFP stuff is included with the optional IBM i Access Client
Solutions Windows Application Package. I don't know if it includes that
functionality, however.

ODBC is the same (like AFP, included in the Application Package), though
there is no iNav GUI, so you have to use the command line utility to add
or change connections. Once the connection has been configured, you can
create DSNs through the ODBC Administrator interface just like before.

Run SQL Scripts and SQL Performance Center are included (and improved over
iNav) in ACS M5 and Visual Explain was included in M6. M6 also includes
additional improvements to RSS and Plan Cache support in SQL Performance
Center. Other database features are in the web Navigator.

Subject: ACS versus older i Access for Windows
Sent by: "MIDRANGE-L" <midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

I've been watching the posts of issues encountered with ACS for couple
years.

Sounds great in many respects,

Is it ready to roll out in a large production environment to various Win
7
and 10 desktop and laptops where our Help Desk can set it up and
basically
forget about it (like i Access) other than occasional service packs?

We use the telnet session (both display and printer), including Win
Terminal
Server and Citrix Servers

some file transfers defined,

using i Navigator's AFP Manager to manage overlays and page segments

ODBC configurations on some clients

other i Navigator functions for database like SQL performance and Plan
Cache.

PC mapped drives of Power I, but that should not be affected by the
client.

V7R1 OS (plan to load 7.3 ).
