Remote upgrades are awesome. I have upgraded MANY HMCs that I have never seen!

Follow the docs to the network install images. These are NOT the same images you get from Fix Central!!! You will then as suggested place them on an FTP server for the HMC to pull over with GetUpgFiles. Then a save upgrade data and a special IPL with upgrade and off it goes.

Now if you do not have the remove view option in the HMC you're running blind and it takes a while so I just set a PING and when it starts responding you'll have the GUI back in about 5 minutes.

As to your upgrade path I didn't review the link but 7.3.5 to 7.7.8 seems a far jump, the rest of the jumps are spot on.

Hi to the Gurus,

We have an HMC on V7.3.5.0, we would like to upgrade it to the current level, V8.8.5.

According to this document:

http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.nsf/ibmscdirect/23C4789BA6F5321886256FD300586B7F

the upgrade path would be:

V7.3.5.0->V7.7.8->V8.8.1->V8.8.3->V8.8.5

Is it correct?

My other question is: is it possible to do the upgrade remotely? (By using files downloaded to a local FTP server, not by using DVD sor iso images on a flash dirve) In this document (upgrade to V7.7.8)

http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.NSF/0/ece7c6d1526edf2986257c34004fbb25?OpenDocument&TableRow=5.2#5.

I saw that it is possible to use getupgfiles command from the HMC to download files from a local FTP server, not IBM's. On later releases it is not mentioned, but I guess it is possible. Is it really?
