I like the Storwize option HOWEVER one must understand the difference in type of I/O for IBM i vs Windows/Linux block file systems. As a consequence of that difference you should not mix Windows/Linux data and IBM i Data on the Same Drives on the SAN. They can be in the same drawer but dedicate some drives for IBM i and other drives for Windows/Linux.

Hi All,

Would like to solicit some opinions about configuring a new box.

We are currently on a i5 (P10) with 32gb ram and 845gb usable dasd.
I am looking at putting in Power 8 P10 with 64gb ram and 2.4tb of SSD drives.

An option is putting in a Storwise rack for the drives so that it can also be used for the network.
If I put in the Storwise I would either put spinning drives or SSD up to around 9tb.

Has anyone worked with the Storwise doing what I am thinking about?

Thanks!!
