Rob,

As Kirk said, you'll notice that when you set the maximum memory higher you
also lose some memory to the hypervisor. you can play around with the
System Planning Tool to see how much memory you can assign to those
profiles and how much the hypervisor needs. The page size also affects this.
Best Regards!

Rob,
If I remember correctly there could be a performance hit with this
approach. It has to do with how the hyper-visor manages memory overall and
I think specifically the memory block sizes it uses. I sure come Monday
those much wiser than I on the subject will set us straight :)

Ok, we just added a bunch of memory to our Power 8. I've really not had
time to properly set the memory in each lpar. I just upgraded the
maximum
memory for each lpar by 32G and left the desired memory alone. I figure
I
can change the desired memory dynamically when I catch my breath.

Is there a flaw to just whilly nilly changing the maximum memory like
this? I mean, there is a reason why you don't just change the maximum
memory for each lpar to the total on the system and just be concerned
about the 'desired memory', right?
