Jim knows more about BRMS than I do but what sort of device would BRMS see that as? I'm guessing none because BRMS uses standard IBM defined tape and Library devices.

Jim / Larry,

I should have better clarified.
I currently use BRMS, I would continue to.
I should have asked
Can a Dell iSCSI MD3260i storage array be used as a backup device on an iSeries running BRMS?

A year ago you could have uses TSM on IBM i. Slow yes, unresponsive yes, but it did work. Now that has been discontinued.

So as Larry pointed out since it's not supported, you would not be able to recover from it, No it won't work.

The solution should mimic a 3584 tape library. There are better options for Virtual Tape out there than an iSCSI attached anything that will in the end wind up more cost effective and actually allow for a recovery.

Larry and I both use ETI-SPHiNX and there are a couple of other vendors as well.

Larry,

Our company currently uses Dell iSCSI MD3280i to backup all our
Windows and Linux servers vIa Tivoli.
I was asked if could be used to back up our iSeries.
The thought was to expand the MD3280i and use it as a backup device as
opposed to tape.
My response was there other disk based backup solutions designed to
work with an iSeries.
But I did need to ask.

Used, perhaps. Supported, no chance. Given that I wouldn't touch it
in a production environment.
