Well, if you contact the list manager he will be happy to discuss it with
you. He works for a company selling this stuff. And we use it.

There is a lot to it, but I'll admit, I'm pretty ignorant on the open
source stuff.

Let's say you do development on one lpar. And propagate to other lpars.
And whether or not you want the source to go to the other lpars is
configurable to you (we don't). So it has to handle that. Let's say you
change a printer file. And it goes to send it out to one lpar only to
find out that someone there ran CHGPRTF FILE(...) DEVICE(SHIPPING) and
changed it outside of change management. It has to let you know this and
ask you how you want to handle this.

I would feel that some open source product written for other platforms
would have a tough time with this.
