I chuckle every time I see or hear the term "Cloud". Back in the day, it was
referred to as "timesharing" on somebody else's mainframe.

I may be in the minority, but I have done it.. more than once. Just did it
from V5R4 to V7R2.

But, I don't do system saves for that. I do the same thing I do on my
PCs. I save only "non system" programs, objects and data. That way I just
take a fresh machine, restore everything and go.

I save everything to a couple different local PCs as save/zip files, and
also upload them to 2 cloud drives as backups.

PC restoration takes about 2 hours. It's reinstalling programs (like
Quickbooks) that takes the most time. but as more applications move to the
cloud, it makes this even easier. QB is probably the only one I don't move
to the cloud yet. (Multiple companies is easier and cheaper on a PC
program).

IBM i restoration takes even less time... FTP the save files up, RSTLIB,
maybe add a couple settings, start HTTP servers and go.

Once in a while there are IFS authority issues to work out, but those are
minor.
