I actually did try the console with the new Java version but every time I
tried it it would error with:

*Unable to launch 5250 console for system <name> because the current
system configuration is not applicable for this task*.

I just assume that maybe this was a bug since it was newer and used the old
console.

I did more looking around and found in the system config there is a "find
console" option that found it. I finally did get a console session then.

So, do I need to load the catalog again and re-ipl to the catalog to get
things going again?

I bet it connects during the start of the IPL, but not after IBM I (when
it goes from LIC IPL to Operating System IPL) you lose the console. See

Subject: Re: Operations Console error 406 after updating to V7R3

Maybe some more information that will help:

Allow console recovery and console can be taken

over by another console . . . . . . . . . 2 1=Yes, 2=No

Select one of the following:

Console type . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3

1. Twinaxial

2. Operations console(Direct)

3. Operations console(LAN)

4. Hardware management console(HMC)

Current state of console tag . . . . . . . . 0 <------- THIS LOOKS
FISHY

Allow supported internal LAN adapter to

be the console . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 1=Yes, 2=No

Allow supported external LAN adapters to

be the console . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 1=Yes, 2=No

Why would the current state of the console tag be 0?

Just followed everything to update to V7R3 on my new power 8 and it
just won't log into the console anymore.

It did just fine installing PTFs, IPLing, etc to get ready.

Now it tries to connect. The status stays as "pending authorization".
I try to log on and get:

Communication error validating the connection to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Error
code: 406

The panel shows A6005008. And it's also for some reason IPLing to the
A side after the IPL to load from a virtual device.

I can manually IPL to the B side and get things working, but
everything there reports V7R2 still. While Operations console shows
V7R3 and I still can't log into the console with any IDs.

I've searched all over and can't find anything that tells me why I'm
getting the 406 error.

I've tried removing the system for ops console. Having it discover
it, no dice. Still the same things.
Any ideas? thanks!
