In a former life at a large company we used Abstract Probe. When RPG IV came along Abstract turned out to be unreliable and crash prone. They couldn't seem to fix it, so we tossed it and got Hawkeye instead.

Perhaps it is written in a way that doesn't take kindly to modification.
