I would use TCP/IP DDM versus the default SNA DDM. Very easy to set up.
Change one parameter on CRTDDMF. One person on this list was having some
recent SNA issues.

The reliability depends a lot on the reliability of the local service. If
you have issues with the locals ripping the wires down repeatedly to steal
the copper for instance.

We used to be a decentralized shop. At one time we had 23 AS/400's. Each
plant had their own. Now they all run on the same lpar on one of our
three Power 8's. Some of the plants were stingy with the money and didn't
keep up with upgrades. We cut one off because we were more than x+2
levels ahead of them and had all source. They finally agreed to let me
upgrade their OS the next weekend. Others were dog old hardware. When
they all hooked up to our 'remote' system they actually had better
response than they did on their local machine! The biggest complaint was
that they couldn't find their jobs running after they submitted them.
Turns out they ran too fast for them to check to see if they were in
WRKACTJOB.
- Don't cheap on the comm
- Don't cheap on the central machine.
