The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Which takes longer? I'm sure that depends on your environment. If I were
concerned, I'd model it both ways and INSERT a million rows or so. If it
turned out that there was a 5 second difference between the two methods,
would you change the code? If it turned out there were 2 hours
difference? Would you change the code if your actual application always
finished in less than one seconds, regardless of the timing tests over a
million rows?
Buck,
In today's web centric environments, it is very true that most SQL
queries take less than a full second to execute. I have to constantly
step back and remind my self that I am not pushing 1 million
transactions per second.
But that is how I program. As if the server depends on my code
being as tight as possible. Even if 1000 web surfers hit my page all at
the same time, my Power8 box isn't even bothered by the traffic.
So again I have to step back and remind myself I am not processing
millions of records with my code.
I do my best to minimize the marshaling of data back and forth.
Seconds can add up in a web app, but I think only when you start moving
large amounts of data for a large number of users.
Thank you Buck for reminding me to keep my feet on the floor.... I am
not on the ISS after all!
Rob
