A really simple one is make sure you have the DOS ftp client loaded on
your laptop.
Start a dos prompt
ftp myibmi
quote rcmd strsbs qinter
quit
exit

Make sure you have that ftp client now. Don't wait until you need it.

But if you have an HMC then make sure that your HMC starts console
sessions as "Shared Sessions" and NOT "Dedicated Sessions". There are
ways to use either "IBM i Access for Windows" or "IBM Client Access
Solutions" to share your system console. I do this no less than once a
week, but I'm a systems kind of guy.

If you have Lan Console instead of HMC then there are programs, like PC
Anywhere, Remote Desktop, Dameware, etc, that will allow you to take
control of that remotely.

If you have twinax then buy a new Power 7 or 8 based system and toss that
piece of excrement into the recycling bin.
